Naval Influences

Stockholm is sometimes referred to as the "Venice of the North" as it is a city built on & surrounded by water with the beautiful Stockholm archipelago situated just outside the city. This has created a strong naval tradition with Stockholms population, basically everyone who lives in our fair city has gone sailing at least once in their life.

Stockholm painted in 1929 by Swedish artist Ewald Dahlskog

This may be one of the reasons why we Stockholmers have always held a fascination for classic marine clothing, such as striped Breton sweaters, duffle coats & deck shoes. At least we who work here at the C Store have a soft spot for naval apparel; Especially this time of the year when the sailors & boatsmen have started launching their ships & the sailing season is just around the corner.

Here's a look at some of our favourite pieces influenced by a life at sea.

Starting with the original, the Armor Lux Loctudy shirt is just about as classic as classics come. Still crafted in Bretagne, using virtually the same materials & methods, this shirt hasn't really changed its look since 1938. We carry the Armor Lux Loctudy in three classic colorways, Blanc/Navire, Navire/Blanc & Blanc/Braise. We feel it is obligatory to own at least one of the three. Priced at only €49 (SEK 499:-) this classic shirt is well worth a LOT more than what you pay for it!

Updating the classic french sailor look, Norse Projects have crafted three shirts using a similar super soft heavyweight combed cotton jersey as Armor Lux, but in a more contemporary design. Hallur is a short-sleeve half striped tee which we stock in both the peacoat/offwhite & offwhite/peacoat colorways. Solmar is a more traditional looking long sleeve shirt, but with an updated fit & ribbed collar, made up in the same heavy & soft interlock fabric as the Hallur T-Shirts. Also echoing naval apparel with the nice peacoat blue colorway, are the Norse Projects Per Shorts. Made up in heavy denim like twill & featuring paspel & patch pockets, they perfectly complete the look together with a pair of quality deck shoes.

Norse Projects Solmar Sailor L/S Tee €69 (SEK 699:-)
Norse Projects Hallur Sailor Tee Peacoat/offwht €55 (SEK 549:-)

Norse Projects Per Shorts Peacoat €109 (SEK 1099:-)

Speaking of deck shoes, We just recieved the first drop from this years collaboratory collection between classic brand Sperry Top-Sider & hyped L.A. label Band Of Outsiders. Just as the previous season, Band of Outsiders have based their design on the Sperry Top-Sider A.O. model & reconstructed it using nylon & suede. The result is just as fresh & unique as it is classic & timeless.

Sperry Top-Sider x Band Of Outsiders A.O. 3-Eye €159 (SEK 1599:-)

Great for windy days & chillier evenings is a lightweight woolen sweater. This season Norse Projects offers us a beatiful breton striped version, made up in super fine Italian Merino Wool. Paired up with Han Kobenhavn's hickory striped Utility shorts, It makes for a look that works just as perfectly by the harbor as it does going out for after hours drinks.

Han Kjobenhavn Utility Shorts €99 (SEK 999:-)
Norse Projects Sailor Stripe Knit €169 (SEK 1699:-)

The chart over Stockholms archipelago that we used as a backdrop comes from our friendly nextdoor neighbours at VÖBAM, a store that specializes in vintage maps & charts. This particular chart is a replica of the 1849 "Karta öfver Stockholms Skärgård med tilgränsande del af Östersjön samt Ålandshaf" by Gustaf af Klint & can be purchased at VÖBAM for SEK 2000:-
